2009 Photo Finish Holiday Cards

Happy November! This months Papertrey Ink Senior DT challenge is all about family, photo's and sharing. As December draws close I start to think of those I've lost touch with. Christmas time is a great time to catch up and share a little about the past year. One way is to slip a photo into your card... but that can get old. This fun card is like getting a little present... with a surprise inside!

I love making something old new again. 2008 Holiday Tag is such a great collection.. these doves are just adorable. I also pulled in last years holiday paper, Holiday Vintage Prints along with this year's Holiday cheer paper. The patterns really complement each other.

I'm really enjoying embellishments lately... Buttons, Crystals, Self adhesive pearls... so many fun things out there. I highlighted Papertrey Ink's Vintage buttons in this card. I love how each bag is filled with little surprise buttons... unexpected gems that are so unique!

The inside has a handy dandy pocket that holds a photo. I haven't had time to snap the official Johnson family Christmas photo yet... so our family vacation photo is the place holder!

What's nice about this design is that you still get two cards out of one sheet of cardstock! I trimmed it in half to make it 4.25 x 11 inches. then score it to 4.25, fold, score again at 4.25. This will have created the card base with the little excess flap of about 2.5 inches. I then used a circle punch to create the notch and some sticky tape to secure it closed on the top and bottom. (make sure to stamp it first though) Now... you could alternately slip in a folded family newsletter and/or a gift card. This is defiantly a mass producible design that you can make simpler by omitting the extra buttons.

Bitty Boo Box

Only 4 more days until Halloween... do you have your treats ready? I'm still debating what I'm taking to my girls harvest parties at school. I have some fun ideas from boo days past... and there are so many resources out there... it's going to be a great day!

So...Sunday we came home from church and had been Boo'd, which is a cute little anonymous little gift giving game. Now out family needs to boo someone. Here's the little box that is going to hold out booriffic treats!

So, All the supplies used are from Papertrey Ink.  I'm a huge fan of Gable boxes, especially for baked goods and heavier goodies. The Borders & Corners {Circles} set is great for framing sentiments, like this one from the Boo to You set! And how cute is that little ghost from the 2009 Halloween Tags set??!! so bitty boo-ish! One fun thing I did with the boo tag is to sponge the edges with a clean dry sponge while the Orange Zest ink was still wet... spreading the joy so to speak. Sweet huh!  Did you notice the dotted stripe circles I used to break up the Black polka dot paper? Those dots are from Journaling lines... an invaluable stamp in my opinion! I know this sounds strange but I like to add seemingly masculine touches to projects. Those black button on the dotted circles remind me of a suit cuff. I think it's a bit of a classy touch. Fun contrast with that Orange Zest Ribbon too.

I'm a busy bee today, working on some design for an upcoming magazine issue... and taxi-ing kids to Activities in general. It's gonna be a Pizza night! Love those! What's your go to take out when life gets Crazy Busy?

BOO!

LOL! Can you believe it's almost Halloween?!?! Are YOU ready? I'm getting there... and trying not to wipe out the candy stash before the big day. Success? I think not! LOL!

Oh!  If you are a new visitor to my blog via Papercrafts Connection today... WELCOME! (hugs to my regular friends as well) And... a big thank you to Kelly at Papercrafts Magazine for spotlighting me today. I feel deeply honored! Today I thought I would share one of the fun projects that they are showcasing over there. (I have two over there... but will blog about the other tomorrow!)Oh, and make sure to post a comment over there to enter to win something fun!

I really do love Halloween! I love the bold colors and kitsch decor that fill homes and stores. There is such whimsy to it all! I was looking for that feeling when I created this card. I used some fun new paper I was sent to create this 5x5 inch card. Oh boy do I love Argyle! It's become so hot again!  :) Who would have thought that circles wold look so great with Argyle! (Marvy punches are the best huh!)

I used Doodlebug Paper, ribbon, gems and stickers (I know, I'm not normally a sticker gal... but hey, I was playin' and it was fun!) It was great to put my mad designer's lab coat on with this fun group of products. Did you spy the AWESOME Papertrey Ink stamps??? I can't make something without them, can I?! I used the 2009 Halloween Tags Boo tag as well as the small dots row from Polka Dots Basics II. Papertrey has the best black ink on the market in my opinion... True Black. It has such coverage and really pops out stamped images! (on a photography note... HOW cool is that blustery rain on my window?! Sooo ghoulish!)
On a more personal note... we are officially mended and everyone will be in School today! Yippee!  Thanks for the thoughts, prayers and well wishes! I'm really looking forward to seeing their bright smiles when the hop off the bus... leaves swirling around their feet... It's time to enjoy fall!

Merry Patterned Christmas

I thought I would share a project today I made  a little ways back using some new punches recently released by Marvy... you might also spy these in an upcoming Ad. :)

One punch that I used has a Christmas Tree, Candy Cane, Dove, Star and Snowman... it's pretty fun. A lot of bang for the buck so to speak! Here is the Tree and Star. You can find it here... Multi-shape Christmas Set.

I used Papertrey Inks Text Style, Borders & Corners Circles, Polka Dots Basics and Silent Night to create the stamped images. I thought that combining the Bitty Boxes and Bitty Stars (Also Papertrey Ink) was really Christmassy.

Here is the little snowman... just simple Ripe Avocado, Smoky Shadow and White cardstock here. I found these little snowflake sequins last year and thought they worked great here.

Those are two of the Extra Jumbo (yellow) scalloped rectangle punch outs that I just adhered together for the base. Nothing fancy... but fun!

Here's the finished ensemble. Sweet and simple! Easy enough to mass produce but still exciting and fun. (btw, the Giga Scalloped circle punch is used too, as well as the paper trimming buddy with the scalloped blade)

So what are you doing today???  I've got half my family home with the flu... No... not H1N1 that we know of but there have been reported cases at their High School.. so I'm a bit cautious.  Seems that this past month has had us up to the nines in sickness...freakin' beans batman. Hannah turned 15 on Saturday and was SUPER sick... poor kiddo. we had to change all the plans and shift everything around... I put a makeshift family party together... the grand Shopping day will have to wait for a few weeks, so it seems. During all this I've been trying to find and maintain some mo-jo for stamp illustrations for next years submissions. (they are due this week) At one time this weekend I just busted out laughing...I mean a girl can only do so much and I was feeling a bit like stretch Armstrong, LOL! So I closed my laptop, put on a movie and snuggled my girls. The tissue box and Emergen-C were passed around and we all rested. Ahhh... it was much needed and appreciated! I hope you all are staying well in this crazy, early flu season!

Oct 09 Papertrey Ink Release!

It's been such a busy week of fun and sharing... I have two more projects from this month's Papertrey Ink release to share with you.... Make sure to hop around to the other DT members... they are just ON FIRE, creatively speaking or course! LOL!

2009 Holiday Card Making 101

Aren't you excited! One extra Papertrey Ink group post for this month's release! It's just a blast to see what everyone makes isn't it! Wasn't yesterday inspiring with all the amazing notepads! I truly feel blessed and amazed to be a part of such a talented group of ladies! WOW!

So...We were all challenged to create 5 cards of one simple design...I instantly knew I wanted to use the Holly image from Holiday Button Bits (available Oct. 15th through Papertrey Ink) it's cool how HUGE it is... take up a good amount of space while still allowing for white space... So fun! (and yes... I can create using traditional Christmas colors Ladies and Gents! LOL!)

I've been tying a lot of bows lately so I thought I would try a little ribbon knot to shake things up a bit.
 
You could definitely spruce this up even more by threading the buttons. I chose not to because I wanted to keep it real for you all. Lets be honest... if I'm personally making a boat load of these babies there is no way I will have the time to hand tread that many buttons. Now... if I weren't wrangling my four girls I would take that extra step... I think it would be a great touch!

Take Note Inspirations

I recently spied a fantastic purse that I just HAD to have! I was so excited to create a little notebook to carry inside... for all the everyday needs. I wanted something elegant... reflective of that awesome new accessory! It was so easy to create this little tidbit for today's Papertrey Ink Group post!

I love the way that Nichole sized the images in this new set...  Take Note (available Oct 15th) to fit perfectly on the little note pads.  (This is a collaborative set... conceptualized by Mish Wooderson herself... brilliant notepad queen extraordinaire! See Nichole blog post for the full scoop.) See how the word "notes" is just the right size! SO useful! Check out the mini damask image that is included. I spied it after I stamped my Giga Guide Lines paper (as seen in yesterday's post). Adding little touches like that just ties everything together so well! BTW... I love how pretty Enchanted Evening ink looks on Soft Stone cardstock. so modern and inviting.

Giga Guide Lines!

Bring it on... and bring it BIG!!! That's my Chocolate philosophy... and it fits so well for today's sneak peek too!!! I'm excited to help introduce Giga Guide Line today! (available from Papertrey Ink on October 15th.) Yes... it includes some of the icons from the two Guide Lines sets... on steroids  serious vitamins! Heehee. I just love them... so easy to use and create with! There is just something special about creating your own patterned paper... choosing your own colors. SO personal! Here's a little Christmas ditty showing how fun it is...

I actually created a few project this month with this paper... you will see a snippet of it in tomorrow's post. I just got stamping and couldn't stop... so I just HAD to make more projects, RIGHT!?

Now... check out that fun Christmas tag  focal image. If you look reeeeeealy close you can see how I use the same Giga image as a background on the tag using the lighter, Spring Rain, blue. It's a PERFECT FIT! I love that kind of happy coordination! I'm going to play with the rest of the tags in the set and the Giga images to see how many combinations I can come up with!

You can also spy the sentiment from Heather's new set as well as the new Text Style II stamp set! I just love the finished card... and I have a PERFECT home for it to go to come mailing day. Giddy!
