Happy November! This months Papertrey Ink Senior DT challenge is all about family, photo's and sharing. As December draws close I start to think of those I've lost touch with. Christmas time is a great time to catch up and share a little about the past year. One way is to slip a photo into your card... but that can get old. This fun card is like getting a little present... with a surprise inside!
Doesn't it look like a little present?
I love making something old new again. 2008 Holiday Tag is such a great collection.. these doves are just adorable. I also pulled in last years holiday paper, Holiday Vintage Prints along with this year's Holiday cheer paper. The patterns really complement each other.
I'm really enjoying embellishments lately... Buttons, Crystals, Self adhesive pearls... so many fun things out there. I highlighted Papertrey Ink's Vintage buttons in this card. I love how each bag is filled with little surprise buttons... unexpected gems that are so unique!
The inside has a handy dandy pocket that holds a photo. I haven't had time to snap the official Johnson family Christmas photo yet... so our family vacation photo is the place holder!
What's nice about this design is that you still get two cards out of one sheet of cardstock! I trimmed it in half to make it 4.25 x 11 inches. then score it to 4.25, fold, score again at 4.25. This will have created the card base with the little excess flap of about 2.5 inches. I then used a circle punch to create the notch and some sticky tape to secure it closed on the top and bottom. (make sure to stamp it first though) Now... you could alternately slip in a folded family newsletter and/or a gift card. This is defiantly a mass producible design that you can make simpler by omitting the extra buttons.
I do have a question for you all... What colors are you choosing for your Christmas/Holiday cards this year? I'm really interested in hearing whatcha got in mind!
Make sure to visit Nichole's and the other Sr. DT blogs as well as Anabelle's!
Thanks for poppying by!

Super cool card! 2007 I was all about plum and gold - great for the holidays! Last year it was kraft, green and blue. This year... hm not totally sure but I know there will be PINK of some sort ^^ Love the non-traditional colours!

I really enjoy the look of you card. The front is absolutley gorgeous, and I love the pocket insert.
This year I will be making all my gifts, tags, and cards using everything Enchanted Evening and Scarlet Jewel along with Vintage Cream cardstock and Fresh Snow ink!!!!

I really like this card - the buttons work so well on it - a real "Chrsitmassy" feel.
Making the photo as part of a wallet really adds to the card and it seems more like a gift than a card.

This is so neat, Lisa! I love the pocket inside the card and the whole design of the card!

Such a fun card, and so happy to know it's out of 1/2 a sheet of CS. So many possibilities. I'm all about more traditional colors at Christmas. Vintage Cream and Scarlet Jewel or Pure Poppy with a touch of gold.

Lisa-
I love this card! You are so creative. I have been trying to figure out a way to include our photo without taking up the whole front and your pocket is the perfect solution! Now I just need to decided how to do the front and what colors to use. I will most likely lean towards the tradition red and green but love the idea of enchanted blue and scarlet! Keeping inspiring us all!

Wow. This is just perfect. That pocket is just the perfect solution for our Christmas photo.
Thanks for sharing.

I love the way you have paired these prints together....and then tucked a photo on the inside (with the little notch punched out)! So pretty! What a wonderful card to send AND to receive!

Your card is so gorgeous I have to change my colour scheme because of it. I was going pink/green and blue but now my head is screaming vintage!

Such a lovely card! I love the idea of having a pocket instead of the usual "stick a card inside" type thing. I haven't quite decided on my cards yet...still waiting on my Holiday Button Bits set :) But I'm thinking in the area of light blue/red/pink. When those colors came out a year or 2 ago I fell in love with them. I love that they're not "traditional" Christmas colors but looks so great anyway!
Thanks for the inspiration!!

I like this idea!! Have no idea on what colors my holiday cards will be....that would mean I was on the ball had had even considered making the cards!!

My colors are hot this year - turquoise, coral, line green & bright pink!

Love you card so much! I am going to try and CASE it today! Thank you so much for the tutorial as well. I would have never figured it out.... I am not as clever as you. One question. What size photo will fit into this card?
Posted by: Laurel Beard | November 03, 2009 at 07:22 AM
I love your card idea and I love using buttons. For Halloween I made a cute card with 3 flat buttons about 1/2 inch wide along the bottom. I mailed 3 identical cards at the same post office/same time and one came back saying it required an additonal 44 cents. So I guess aware before you add a bunch of buttons to your cards.

Gorgeous card, Lisa! Love the flap. I haven't decided on my colors this year. I love kraft, so that will be my neutral.

Lisa, love your photo card. Very creative! I make
several different designs for my Christmas cards each
year. I frequently use a red/gold combo, a blue/silver
combo or a red/green combo. VERY traditional, I know.
However, this year I dared to step out of the box and
created a pink/green card. And you know what? I think
I like stepping out of the box for a change. Kind of
liberating. Think I'll have to do some more
experimenting!

Absolutely fabulous card! Love that it uses a half sheet of cardstock, but I have a question. What size picture can you use then? Even a 3x5 would be too big if the card size ends up to be 4.25 X 4.25, right? Or am I not understanding the dimensions correctly?
Last year I did non-traditional colors, brown and aqua mist, this year I am working on something with browns and kraft and green and maybe a little bit of dark red in there too...I need to get working on my design SOON! Thanks for sharing your talent and awesome ideas with us all!

Just cut all my card stock in preparation for my holiday cards and I am using this template for each and every one! Thank you so much for sharing this with me. Such a cute, fun card and easy to mass produce!
Posted by: Laurel Beard | November 05, 2009 at 04:34 AM
I love your card! You make beautiful cards out of simple cardstock. WOW! I don't have a color theme picked out for our holiday cards yet. I make my own cards and sell at various local craft fairs, so I create cards with a variety of color choices. But, I do have to say that I am partial to non-traditional christmas colors. Thanks for the great card to help get the creative juices flowing! :)

What a great idea, I love your colors and you are so right about the buttons! The design is wonderful!

Love your card! So handy with the pocket! Colors this year: I am on the fence between the classic holiday colors, like scarlet jewel and ripe avocado with some spring moss (Lauren's tree, your gaw-juss cards) OR the pale lavender, ice blue and silver, inspired by some card blogs, but mostly the silver disco ornaments etc in Target! I don't know how I could marry the two color schemes, but they are equally appealing to me!!
Thanks for another inspired post! You da bomb girl!
