August is a pretty big month here in the Johnson home. Chris turns 40 this year, the girls have activities coming out their ears... and it's that month right before school start where tryouts and school government kicks in! The extra fun is the Papertrey Ink Senior DT challenge!!! Nichole gave us a great one this month. At first I was sort of shakin' in my boots. No, Seriously... but I realized that It's something I've been doing a lot lately without even thinking about it! Then it became a blast! (Perspective is golden I tell ya!)
Patterned paper... it's something that I struggled with in the past... I'm a recovered patterned-paper-a-phobic you see. I was totally afraid to play and experiment. But after a few years of just diving in I've figured out a few things that help me.. and I used them in this card!
First... don't be afraid to pair patterns. The floral paper is Hibiscus Bust while the polka dot one has no real pink in it... but Lavender moon is present.
I love creating my own paper because I'm a stamper... but I used to forget that you can easily customize your patterned paper by stamping on it. See the leaves? I could have easily just made them from cardstock. Stamping them onto the Bitty Dots paper added a little extra depth and texture. Fun huh!
The other thing I did was to make the flower from the Plum Pudding paper in the Guide lines collection. I added glitter to the petals knowing that the pattern would be lost... but there is still a slight variation that peeks through adding a little extra to the project!
I know you will love the rest of the teams project... and Wendy Sue is playing along again too! (I've just loved her stuff!)

Something about this beautiful card just "does it" for me. I keep coming back to it and viewing it, trying to decide "what it is" that so inspires and captures my attention. Is it the sweet use of the polka dot paper with the punched border? The way the bitty dot ribbon pairs with it? Or the mini square paper or all of it in harmony? I don't know, but it's really fascinating. And inspiring...and simply lovely! Had to let you know.
