Sounds like a yummy combination huh!... well I think it is... even if it's in color and image, and not real fruit. This last week I was all about 5 minute cards. I sometimes feel bad giving these... especially when my kids so openly share about my publications and design work. I worry that I need to give extravagant cards. I just couldn't pull it off with everything that's been going on on life... and Hubby being out of town. But... to be honest, I like these simple, quick lovelies better than the 2 hr. Cards. (for both giving and receiving.) Here's what I came up with for Pepper's teacher.
Unfortunately I didn't get to snap a photo of her that day... I couldn't be in two places at once. :) I hope her teacher liked her card though. I thought it would be fun to combine the circle paper from the Black & White Basics and Bitty Dots Sweet Blush pattern paper with a raspberry Fizz apple from Teacher's Apple. I like how the different patterns work so well together. I thought a modern color scheme would be a fun change with this set!
Well, Summer break is in full session. I've been trying really hard to get into a schedule so that the days just don't melt away. We are doing pretty good... What's a little amazing is how they gnashed and wailed about having to "get up by 8am"... yet they are up by 7AM every morning WAKING ME UP! LOL! We've actually been pretty close to schedule every day too. (not a weekend deal though.) You might look at the "Home School" part and think I'm a real Nutter Butter... but Ella needs to gain some ground this summer so i needed to put that in. Alex is researching Pre-Calculus for next year, Pepper is playing online math games or writing stories and Hannah is also working on math, Algebra. The three older girls are exceptional readers and writers... I'm so impressed by their abilities. This year they scored 100% on the state tests for both.*happy mama here* Ella is a lot like me and more interested in fun and dancing. I love reading now but it came later in life. I created a rewards system for her this summer... a BOOKWORM! She sits anxiously and reads with me now ... slowly sounding out her words, it makes my heart leap to hear her. I'm hoping that she will be fully reading by the summer's end. One thing is for sure though... I just want her to love it no matter what level she is at... so I'm making it fun! Here is the BOOKWORM I created for her...Download Book worm by Lisa Johnson
Feel free to use it for personal use. My other girls want to have their own book worm. Unfortunately, for them, I have to take books away so much, when they are supposed to be doing their chores, that they don't need any encouragement. LOL!
What are YOU doing this summer??? :)
Whew... sorry about the monster post. LOL! I've missed blogging and there's been a lot of yada yada going on! Thanks for poppy-ing by!
P.S. I just inked up my NEXT stamp set today. OM WORD... It's so cool! I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. I might just have to sit here on my couch tonight, watch a movie and PLAY!!! I can't wait to share!
I LOVE your card... it might be a quick card, but it is so adorable... :)

I love the card and the book worm idea. My 5 year old granddaughter is reading. (learning to read) It is such a thrill to hear her sound out her words.

We're doing a summer homeschool, too. My older son has to work on math and reading comprehension, and my younger son works on reading and writing. It's just 30 minutes a day for the little one, and 40 minutes for the elder. The reward is earning points to go to Chuck E. Cheese. Very motivating for them!

I love the card. I agree that the cards that take too long to make are not as fun for me. Besides, it is a card, something that people often toss at some point. I do not want them to feel guilty that they tossed it, and I do not want to feel bad about it either!! for me, the most difficult part is the actual design idea. then I do "assembly line" cause once I come up with a design, I like to have some in reserve, give in gift packs etc.
And I still am just like your older girls, I would rather read than most activities!

I love this card and as a teacher it would be awesome to receive! :-)

This card is sweet! Don't apologize for it being a quicky!
We have to homeschool in the summer too with my youngest. He has short term memory loss and it is just too hard for him if we don't, so I understand perfectly. It's just enough to help him and he is the one that is hurt if we don't.
Can't wait to see what your new images are going to be! I entered my youngest son's images in to a contest and he won and I rec'd the stamps yesterday. Had to run for parts for DH, so am planning to ink them up today. Ü

It takes weeks to get my son to not come wake me up BEFORE I would normally be having to Drag him out of bed during the school year. Isn't that amazing?! During the school year, I have to use every trick in the book to get him to rise, but then summer hits and he is up even earlier! :> Very cute apple card! Looking forward to your next stamp set.....what a tease! :> lol

Your apple card is fabulous, I love the colors. And I'm printing off a book worm right now! I've told my kids the same thing, if chores are done by a certain time, they have the rest of the day to play!!!

I try to mix things up every summer. Last summer we had a CandyLand type game that we made on posterboard. The kids got to move a certain amount per chore they did, and there were rewards along the way (ice cream, book at Half-Price Books, et cetera) culminating in a summer movie of their choice. My house was never so clean!
This year we're doing merit badges. I just made a list of different requirements within categories -- cooking, sewing, reading, piano, swimming -- lots more. They just work on them like scout merit badges, and we'll have an awards ceremony at the end of the summer. This is my first year of doing it, so I'll be tweaking it as we go along.
Long-winded, sorry. I always love all your cards, love to see what you come up with. Thanks for all the inspiration!

Awesome! I'm printing the bookworm for both my boys! We are getting a "summer" this year since we changed tracks (Year round school over here). So we are off this Friday and don't go back until Aug 3rd.
We plan on doing swimming lessons, hiking, camping, walks, and working on Perrin's Bear stuff for Scouts. Oh! Reminds me, he has Scout Day Camp in July, too.

I just love your card!! You always do such a wonderful job!! Cant wait to see your next set!!

Y'know what, Lisa? I'd be thrilled to have a handmade card whether it took 2 seconds or 2 hours - the fact that the giver gave me some of herself (or himself), spent time they can never get back on *me* - I'd love it! So, please don't feel like you need to give people extravagant cards. If they *expect* that, then they don't truly appreciate hand-crafted items. :) The card is *cute* and...did you just tease us about your newest stamp set? Did you really?! Was that very nice?? I think not!!!!! tee-hee-hee! Can't wait to see it!!!!

Oh and duh...(three y/o is awake and kissing me...yeah, at 1:00 in the morning) THANK YOU for the cute bookworm! I'll be using that with my 6 y/o who just learned to read last school year and with my 5 y/o who is about to start learning to read! :)

What a great little bookworm! Thanks so much for sharing that, and the schedule...I will be working 2 days this summer instead of 4 and I think I need to add structure in our lives or I might just putter the day away...or get stuck stamping and/or cleaning my neglected house!

FANTASTIC BOOKWORM IDEA!! I think I'll do that with my going into 1st grade daughter this summer!

The card is really cute! I'm sure the teacher really appreciated it and didn't think a thing about how long it took you--just that you made it for her. I love your morning schedule. :) The bookworm is adorable!! We did a similar summer reading activity with a train. My son was into trains so he added a car for each book. Thanks for sharing your bookworm.
