I was sitting here thinking about my first few years stamping, back when I was just starting as a concept designer and was still a SU demo... I learned so much. I also experimented with all sorts of things and while toying with interactive elements I came up with the Sentimental Slide. (you may have seen my article a few years back in Take Ten about it.) The concept behind it is to have a two part sentiment that slides back and forth to reveal each part... here is how it works...
Prep all your focal elements... I chose to have these AWESOME flower punches be mine...(the Extra Jumbo and Super Jumbo) and Pine's Around & About Sentiments were perfect for this project too!
Next stamp the first part of your sentiment onto a strip of cardstock. To figure out how long your sentiment strip needs to be simply hold that stamped end and hide the sentiment behind the panel, or in my case punched flower, then mark with your pencil where the sentiment will need to be stamped on the other side. The trick is for the one side of the sentiment to be hiding when the other side is showing. I used Papertrey's True black and just inked the ends of the stamp... perfect!
Next turn your front over and line up the sentiment strip where you want it to slide. Mark with a pencil.
Now, you get a little peek at one of my favorite products.. these foam craft squares simply rock! I've been using them for a few years now... they are perfect for something like this. I cut the length of squares I need then peel off the back and adhere the entire strip. Then I add them individually to the edges. (these are very dense, which I love!)
Next cover the prepared piece with a matching piece of cardstock to close the "channel" you've just created. Now finish assembling the decorative portion of the flower and adhere it to the box (or card if you desire) Place some ribbon and a brad at the end of each side... this helps to stop the slide from coming out. (you can use a button or anything else that is thicker than the "channel".)
Here is the finished Sentimental Slide ... in "action" so to speak! :)
Notice how the one sentiment disappears when the other is showing! Isn't that fun!
Here is the finished gable box! I love how cheery and bright it turned out. I'm excited to brighten someones day with it filled with some yummy goodies!
I hope you will create your own Sentimental Slide! If you do... put your link in a comment on this post so we can all see!!!

I am very interested in the foam craft squares that you used.
I see that company only sells wholesale.
DO you sell them or do you know of a company that does?
I like to buy some but I can't afford to buy in a large bulk ($300) nor can I buy wholesale.
Please help.

Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful idea...I made 3 cards using your tutorial...and am so happy with the way they turned out. This is so much nicer than the traditional slider made with the penny..lighter and much easier.

Great tutorial. I think I am going back to the classic designs. I just placed my first order with PTI and naturally I had to have REMEMBER. I can't wait to play with it. I grew up with the red poppies and blue cornflowers in every field (Europe)and we had the large red and white with pink poppies in my parents garden.
Love your designs and your blog.
