The Best of the Best: Flower Garden

I was chatting with Nichole about how incredible it is to see the gallery filled with Flower Garden Samples created by the some of the BEST designers in the industry! What a privilege it is! If you are new to my blog, Flower Garden and Flower Garden Sentimentsare my first stamps sets just released at Papertrey Ink! Click on their links to view the sets in full.

Nichole gave me permission to share my favorite Designer's samples here on my blog. They are all so lovely and unique and invoke different emotions in me... its so neat! I know I've said it before, but it's like seeing a child (my stamps) being taught Piano... I get to see a different potential fulfilled!

Debbie blew me away with her coloring abilities! She has a streamline technique and the ability to show depth in these fun flowers! She also created a background with several of the stem and doodle images that really added to the depth of the card. I feel like I could bend down and smell these lovelies!

Becky ... she created a wheat style pattern with the elegant stem... I dropped my jaw when I saw it in the gallery! This totally changed my perspective of my own stamps! I can't wait to make a Happy Harvest card in the fall with her brilliant discovery!

Geny utilized the doodle bracket as a vine for the flowers to run with...I love the simple elegance combined with the earthy feel of the Kraft cardstock.. simply sweet! Here ribbon use was also an eye catcher! She also made this right before giving birth to a new son... Congrats Geny!

Pine (Heather) ...Breathe... take a deep breath... don't faint... That's what I was telling myself as I opened Pine's Gallery up and saw these beauties. these look like fine art... like they too hours or even days to create. I was elated to see how the whimsical curves of the solid images translated to such elegant impressions. Breathtaking, truly Breathtaking!

Jennifer Created this little tin using the Lady Bird Johnson quote from Flower Garden Sentiments.  I hadn't even thought about trying the size with the tins and now Im jumping up and down thinking about all the little bobbles I will be able to create. I also thought the customized Prima was a sweet touch.

Lauren outdid herself this release with Flower Garden and it was difficult to pick a favorite... but I decided that the simple WOW factor in this card took the prize. I find it difficult to create simple WOWs and am constantly striving to achieve them. This shows the elegance of this Tri-petaled flower and the layout is awesome. I can see me recreating this project over and over again... switching out the sentiment as needed!

Lynn used the flowers and stems in a unique way on this over the top flower pot project! I love how she made the small flowers work together. I would have never envisioned this and can't wait to experiment with that myself. Isn't it lovely!

Taylor used such a unique color combination with her warm card. It feels like a summer is ending and fall is on it's way card! She created such a lovely scene utilizing masking... which works SO well with this set! This gives me SUCH warm Fuzzies!

Amy use of black on this card really popped out the flower on this sweet card. I also love how she veered away from yellow or orange for her flower center. I forget that flowers have other colors sometimes... and this was a great example of how that color change can give a new perspective to an image!

Flower Garden Finale!

Today is the last day of my countdown for Flower Garden and Flower Garden Sentiments. I have a few last cards to share today. a little dessert so to speak. :)

First... Nichole's post yesterday was so inspiring! I am a vintage loving girl and wanted to create something with my sets using the same color combination.. Aqua Mist is AMAZING with Cream and Kraft!

I love how this combination turned out ... I had to include some sweet buttons too... I'm sort of becoming addicted to buttons! LOL! This photo doesn't do this justice in all honesty.. this card is smoother looking IRL.  I paired up the bunch sentiment with the circle image from Bordes & Corners {Circle). These Marvy flower punches are so sweet.

Next, This is the very first card I made using my sets... I just wanted to play... get a feel of it. So I started to simply stamp.

 Nothing elaborate. simple and sweet!

When I was creating Flower Garden Sentiments I knew I needed a stamp that said I'm Sorry. Really... I need one more often than not.  :) This is also the card I was working on when I figured out the rotating flower concept for this set. There is a companion card to this one using the flower individually, however you will have to wait until it shows up in PaperCrafts Card Creations: Quick and Easy in December. It just got accepted yesterday!

I have grown to love masking SO much and I will share with you in a moment a special way I've just started to do it. Masking really made this card come alive! This quote is so lovely and I can see  using it on sympathy cards as well as pick me up cards. this is yet another Flower Garden Sentiments stamp!

Here is my new way of masking: I take a transparency sheet and stamp all of the images that I might want to mask in a set. (I use black StazOn for this) I then trim out the stamped images and store them in a glassien bag with a little label. I use these babies over and over again when masking the traditional way! So easy! not only is the transparency thin enough... but I can really see what I'm doing!

This has been a special week. I feel like I am in my last day at Disneyland. I've had a fantastic time, not sure if Im ready to be done, but tired beyond belief! LOL! I have a brand new appreciation for Nichole and the amount of work that she does every month with her count downs. What a fantastic Designer,example and friend she is! I hope you will, if you have not already, take the time to thank her for all of her hard work. Her unique involvement in her tri-owned company is one of the major aspects that sets Papertrey apart from the rest! She goes beyond the needed and embraces the extra mile!

Flower Garden Faux Batik

One technique that I was excited about doing with Flower Garden was Faux Batik. Last August I wrote on my blog about how I came to develop this version of Faux Batik. Here is part of that post.

"Last year we had an opportunity to visit St. Kitts. A little Caribbean Island that is known for its Carabelle Batik. We went to Romney Manor to see first hand how it was done. The beauty there is amazing...and is truly reflected in the work they do! While there watching them hand create, melting the wax and carefully outlining...it occurred to me how neat it would be to transfer this process to paper. The wheels started turning. Faux batik has been done...but Ive never felt that the effect is true or close enough to the real deal. After coming home I realized that I could replace Rubber cement for the wax that is used on cloth and thus my version of Faux Batik was born."

Today I will show you how I do this rustic technique!

First... I use a cardstock with very little tooth... Cryogen White by Curious is my favorite for this.

After you stamp the images how you want them, apply rubber cement over the areas you want to Faux Batik.

The next step is to take a tack and slowly scrape in a pattern.Now it's time for the spray! I love  Memories Mist that Stewart Superior carries when doing this technique. The ink is just diluted enough to seep in the scrapped areas! After you spray, let the ink sit for a minute to allow some saturation.

(I started with the loose flowers but decided that I wanted to create a panel... so I went and stamped the images together on another sheet of cardstock)

 Next, dab off the excess ink with a paper towel or rag.

Now, set it aside for about ten minutes. This will allow the paper to dry for the next step.

After the paper is completely dry you can proceed with the next step. Gently roll the Rubber Cement off of the image. (If the paper is still damp the rubber cement will tear the paper.)

This card also uses a sentiment and the bee image from Flower Garden Sentiments! I love this little bee... there is a mini bee trail image in the set as well.

Oh... I have one more project to share for today!

This is a simple and quick tote bag created using The Flower Garden Stamp set, Puffy Velvet Markers, PTI Ribbon and SEI Buttons. The Tote is by Loew-Cornel.

I simply stamped the images in lighter ink, traced over it with the pens, heat set then decorated it! Easy stuff and a quick gift!

So today I shared something that I discovered in a HOT, Tropical  place and something that needed to be Hot to activate! Hot, Hot, Hot! Heehee!

My Favorite Bunch!

One thing I enjoyed while creating Flower Garden and Flower Garden Sentimentswas being able to coordinate these versatile stamp sets with some of my favorite punches.

 I coordinated both sets with a variety of punches. Now, I have to add the disclaimer that I don't have all of the punches out there... but I have almost every Marvy punch, most SU and a few other brands. I have included what I could reasonably coordinate on the tip sheet for this set! (the tip sheet will show up when the sets go on sale June 15 th midnight EST!)

One of my favorite images in Flower Garden Sentimentsis a circular image designed to fit in the center of the Super Jumbo Clever Lever (Blue) flower punch by Marvy (See this Marvy punch size/color chart for detailed information). Also, it just so happens to fit into the center of many of the images from Boxes, Bags and Tags as well! Wait, I'm not done..heehee... you will see that I use it as the center of the flower with a scalloped circle too! (yellow Extra Jumbo scalloped punch, Marvy)

Insiders news: Papertrey Ink will soon be carrying ALL of the sizes of the Marvy Uchida Clever Lever Flower Punch! Watch for the availability at Papertrey Ink or Nichole's Blog !

Now... onto the goodies! A few weeks ago I had this entire project pop into my head... which was SO cool to me since I usually just start creating before something great comes to me.

 

Here is a peek at it before we begin!

This project starts out with a Terra Cotta Pot and two paint colors. I painted one coat, let dry then added a second.

TIP: Keep your foam brushes in plastic wrap between coats to keep your brushes moist.

The next step is to punch out the largest of the Clever Lever Flowers (Pink Giga) from my Kraft Cardstock.

I stamped white dots onto the flower then used my craft knife to create two slits. I then used my bone folder to score in the center of the slits. This makes it easier for the section to pop out for use.

This is how the flower should look from the back.

Next you will need to paint the Kabob stick. I chose to use this Marvy Acrylic paint marker for the job. It worked nicely. It gave smooth coverage without looking stark white... which is what I was looking for from one coat. my regular white paint would have looked more streaked with just one coat. I wanted some of the undertone to show for a more natural feel.

 Next, simply slide the stick through the flower and secure it with Zip Dry paper glue. (I was over ambitions an went right in after painting... a one minute wait would have saved me the smears.) At this point you can cover the back with another flower if you wish... I decided not to since this will back to a wall at all times to see their pretty faces.

 Next I stamped the circle tag image then stamped the circle bunch image, followed by the favorite sentiment. I then punched it all out with the smallest of the Clever Lever scalloped circle punches (Yellow Extra Jumbo). Foam mount tape was then used to secure it to the flower center. (You will see some other examples of the use of this Bunch stamp at the end of this post... Don't miss it!) I used a Styrofoam ball that had been sliced in half for my support inside the pot. I then trimmed off a small section of a few of the sticks to make it so I could vary the height! Next I added some Zip dry around all the stems and added the Spanish moss on top to cover the Styrofoam.

Here is the finished project! This would be the perfect gift to any parent as well as Grandparents. Also for a class gift to a beloved Teacher. I also like making General sentiment cards with the "from your favorite bunch" combination. As in.... Happy Birthday or Thank you!  You will see a few magazines come out with those combinations in a few months! ;)

Now, as promised... a few more examples of this stamp with the Thanks a coordinating stamp! One with a different frame from Boxes, Bags & Tags and one with the image simply stamped and punched as originally designed!

Doesn't this stamp look elegant in this frame! You may also want to note that I used the solid impression of the flower from the first day with a little color pop using the 5 dot image directions from that same post! Papertrey's new Cream really adds to the elegance of the card!

Lastly, the stamp simply in the middle, completing it's design function! I was inspired by Nichole's Teacher card from the blog hop for this one.

Flower Garden Tricks!

One of the neatest things that I have discovered in playing with Flower Garden is how to get even more flower shapes than there are stamps for in the set! I'm excited to share this with you today.

First let me share with you how just by rotating the flowers you can achieve a different feel and look.

 

This card features the Simple 5 petal flower in the set. The flower in the middle is how the flower is designed... but I've made it seem as if there were 3 different flowers instead of just one just by rotating the trimmed images. Also, Here is the close up of the cool score lines on the card.

Here are some fun tricks when using Flower Garden to get those extra flowers!

 Here is an example of how you can use the 5 petal simple flower in the set to create 3 different looks by simply rotating your flower as you stamp! Isn't that fun!

Next I want to share with you how you can achieve 2 totally different flowers from the 3 petal images from the set. Both the solid and the line drawn versions. Click photo to see the full size example.

 

Flower Garden has 8 separate flower stamps (solid and Line drawn) ...With the addition of these 5 tricks you can have the choice of 16 different flowers. (using the solid and line drawn images together adds the 3 more looks!)

This card gives you a peek at one of the stem images in the set. You may notice that same image in my banner. It's one that I love... it's perfect with popping out a flower from and masking too. I remember this being one of the first images that I ever created with my Wacom Tablet too. the curves add a real elegance to this set!

The countdown Begins!

To say that I am elated to share this with you today is an understatement! I feel like I've been working for years to get to the point that I finally get to share with you my inaugural sets for Papertrey Ink... yes... that's right... sets!

I have packed these sets to the brim with stamps! It's been a true adventure to be able to ink up an image that I have Conceived, Drawn, transferred into a digital program & made into photopolymer! It's quite surreal. It's also an adrenaline rush to see what others have created with it. Sort of like seeing someone teach your child how to play the piano. SO COOL! The Papertrey Ink Design Team has my jaw in permanent dropped position!

Sooo... without further ado...my first countdown project for you!

Flower Garden sentiments is a compilation of flower gardening quotes, play on words and sweet sentiments. There are also a few image style stamps in the set that I will share at a later date. One saying that has been floating in my home for years is "Plant seeds of kindness and your garden of friends will grow". I think I found the saying in a tole painting pattern book, but can’t recall specifically. Anyhow, I thought it would be fun to create a seed packet project to share today focusing of that sentiment. I also have a pattern available as well as a print and trim download! I will share with you in a moment few ideas for it!

I chose to print my Print and Trim pattern onto Lemon Tart cardstock. Next I used the image in the set that is a long swirl bracket to create a doodled background look, filling in the spaces with the smallest flower images in the set. Trimming the seed pack out was the next step... followed by scoring. I sponged all the edges to add some contrast when the folds were overlapping as well.

Now...there are a ton of things to create with this seed packet pattern... an actual packet that holds some seeds... maybe sunflower seeds. It can act as an envelope for a note...one cool thing to do is use it as an actual card and even a gift card holder!!! I was in need for Teacher appreciation items so I've decided to create thank you card for them. (my older girls will help to make their own for some of their teachers as they LOVE stamping!)

This 5 petal flower is one of the largest flowers in the set (a little over 1 1/2 inches wide).

 I have created solid and line drawn versions so that the flowers can be stamped separately or together! I love how this flower's petals seem to fold back slighlty, giving it a more real feel.
Now... here is a trick to take note of... there is a 5 dot image in the set that is meant to stamp dots into the center of a flower. Use the BASE SIDE of this stamp to color in the center of this flower!

Two stamps in one!!! For this project I chose to combine the solid and line drawn images with the five dot trick to create a lovely Summer sunrise flower with a Lemmon Tart Center.

The next step is to stamp the line drawn portion of the flower over the prepared solid images!

Now...Flower Garden has a few different leaves and stems. I chose the largest leaf and its coordinating outline image for this project. Next I trimmed the flower and leaf and mounted them on a white punched circle. (this is the Blue circle clever lever from Marvy). I also added some Stardust Stickles to the center of the flower (it's my fav!) You will see it all together on the finished project.

Now for ribbon! I LOVE Papertrey's Saddle Stitch Ribbon! I’m pretty sure it's my favorite now... but I like the twill too, so I'm not committing to that fav thing yet...LOL!... anyhow...I made sure to strategically place my foam mount squares so that the ribbon could  freely move underneath the focal image. Next I wrapped my ribbon how I wanted it around the seed packet and placed my focal image onto the front.

The inside of the seed packet is then layered with Summer Sunrise cardstock and a white layer that has been stamped with the coordinating mini flower as well as the play on words sentiment "Thanks sow much". (as in sowing a garden.) I left it ready for my daughters to write a personal sentiment to their awesome teachers!

Here is what the Seed Packet looks like from the back.

You will note that the flaps aren't securely flat. I actually wanted it to be obvious to the recipients that they were supposed to open it. I learned a while back that non-stampers don’t always see what we think may be obvious, rightfully so. :)

Here is the Seed Packet finished! I just love how the font in "Kindness" has the swirls on it... It fits perfectly with the curves in this set!

I just have to show you one more stamp. Flower Garden Sentiments has some really unique sentiment and "Hand Picked just for you" is one I designed for a purpose! It's specifically designed to work in the Word Window punch by SU! I wanted something that could be a fast and thoughtful sentiment...something that I could just grab a bunch of flowers from the yard, tie a ribbon on a make a tag! Well, our flowers are late this year... but the sentiment applies to anything really! nHere's a final ensemble using Nichole's fun party favor box pattern! I created the box, added some Summer Sunrise Twill... then added the special tag! this was a snap!
