Crayon Resist is one of the first stamping techniques that I learned when I started stamping. It's an Ooooold technique but one that I still like. I rarely see it used any more and thought it would be fun to revisit and combine it with some of the newest Papertrey Ink fall stamps! There is something SO very elegant about the end results. I love how the cards shine!
Let's begin!
you will need...
- Your favorite linear (line) images from Papertrey Ink :)
- Glossy White cardstock
- Pallete Black Noir ink (Or Dark Brown.. just needs to be permanent ink)
- Light colored crayon (Crayola works best)
- Coordinating Dye Inks
- Synthetic Sponge (or similar tool)
- Kleenex type tissue
First stamp all the images onto the glossy cardstock. I used the new Friendship Jar Fall Fillers to create my cards. I just love the gentle curves in this set!
Allow the ink to thoroughly dry then trace over with a light colored crayon. (Some people prefer white but I like to see what I'm doing.)
Start sponging areas with dye ink. I used a medium brown for the first/ acorn layer.
The cutie pumpkins NEED to be a pretty orange color so that was sponged next.
Finally I sponged in some green and then yellow to fill in the gaps.
This is about the time I walk away for about 5 minutes. It's usually dry within seconds but I like to make sure.
The next step is to take a tissue and rub off the crayon residue.
Look at the shine on that paper... SO fun in person!
There are so many possibilities with this technique. Think about Spring or Baby cards done in pastels. WOW! I think I will be trying some Christmas cards this year with some shade of blue. Any thoughts as to what you might make using this technique?
Here are the finished cards! I tied layered the finished cardstock onto Orange Zest Cardstock then tied a Simply Chartreuse bow on the front.
This next card utilizes the scraps leftover from the first card. The colors just pop off the paper!
The contrast of the glossy paper and Rustic Jute button twine is fun too. It's so fun to start thinking about all the other possibilities!
Here they are together. I love the contrast of these two cards... one elegant the other, with the scallop edge, whimsical.
What inspired me to share this technique today? I was looking at some vintage cars, one of which a supposed ancestor designed, and thought about what neat things were left behind as progress occurred. It made me ponder what old techniques I had left behind. You just never know what's going to inspire you!!!
So... what other Papertrey Ink stamps do you think would be great with Crayon Resist?
